Lucy Turns Four!
How do I have a kid who is four!? HOW? Four years with this girl has gone by in a blink but at the same time it’s hard to remember life without her in it.
We were sick as dogs for Lucy’s birthday so instead of family coming over for pizza and cake we tried to make her birthday special with just us. The whole family chipped in on a play couch and we set it up the night before so she would be surprised when she woke up on her birthday. It was a really big hit! When I asked Lucy what she wanted to eat for supper and what kind of cake for her birthday and she said homemade pizza’s and a strawberry cake. So, as requested, we did just that! It was just a fun lazy day at home celebrating our girl.
Here is a birthday letter to my dear Lucy;
Lucy, Luce, Goober, Goob,
Today you are four! I cannot believe it’s been four years since you made me a mama. You came so quickly and had a rough time adjusting to the world, and boy did you let us know it. And now, not that much has not changed when you’re having a hard time! You definitely gave me a run for my money this year. My goodness you are fierce! You speak your mind and you don’t let anyone mess with you, even me. But for all the fierceness in you, there is just as much, if not more, sweetness. My goodness you are so sweet and thoughtful and kind. The way you think of others and in turn express your gratitude is the most amazing thing to witness. You are one of the brightest kids I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. You continue to blow our minds with all you are learning and all you can do. You’re smart as a whip and so sassy (you get that from me and it’s going to come back to bite me for sure! lol). You’re funny and constantly making us laugh. You are stubborn and headstrong. You are so loved.
Watching you be a big sister this past year has been so much fun (although challenging at times). You love your brother so much. You’re always looking out for him and teaching him new things i.e bossing him around. Recently it’s been so wonderful watching you read to him. You love making him laugh and chasing him around.
You love movie nights, but especially the movie snacks. Popcorn and gummies and a juice pack are your must haves.
You love music and dancing and singing around the living room. It’s not often that the music isn’t on as you’re always requesting it. Current favourites are the Encanto soundtrack, Elmo, and the Lion King soundtrack, and you often request that we listen to some “chill” music.
Speaking of the Lion King, you are currently obsessed with it. You pretend you are Simba and Milo is Nala, and often call me Sarabi and it’s the funniest thing. You make believe you’re on Pride Rock and that you are rescuing Mufasa so he doesn’t have to die, you pretend you’re running from the hyenas, you take care of Milo “cub.”
You love nature documentaries and they are your “show” of choice whenever you have iPad time. More specifically, anything about the ocean is your favourite. It’s so funny watching a three year old (now four year old) get so into documentaries like that. Throughout the day you’ll ask “Mom, did you know…” and spout off some facts about a very specific sea creature I have never heard of.
You love to draw and you’re really starting to get detailed. Drawing pictures helps you calm down and feel better when you’re having a hard time. Your paintings and drawings bring me so much joy.
You’re learning to read! We’ve been working hard for about a month now and it’s impressive what you have learned in such a short time! It’s amazing watching you sound out the words and read. You are working so hard. You are a little prefectionist and you don’t like when you make mistakes, but we are working on it, and you’re learning that mistakes are how we learn, and you’re overcoming that and working so hard to get past your mistakes in a positive way! Here is a story that you read today:
A little cat can sit on a man.
She can run in the sand.
She can lick a man.
She will lick me.
I love you so much my sweet girl. I’m so excited to continue to watch you grow into the amazing human you are becoming! Happy Birthday!
Love Mom
